The Computing Studies Faculty at Sydney Technical High School aims to promote excellence in technology education through a hands-on practical approach to technology. Students learn to harness technology for learning as well as research and prepare and present information in a way relevant to the 21st Century.
Computing Years 9-10
Information and Software Technology involves a broad spectrum of computing aspects. We cover Desktop applications, Multimedia including video, audio and still images, software programming, Animation and Web Design. This is a very practical course and main assessments involve project work in groups and individually.
Accelerated Information Processes and Technology
To cater for individual learning styles and different levels of ability we encourage students with proven computing skills to study the senior course Information Processes and Technology in Years 9 and 10. The students sit for the HSC in this subject in Year 10. There is an entrance test requirement for students wishing to take up this course.
The senior courses offered are the Board of Studies, Teaching and Education Standards (BOSTES) HSC courses, Software Design and Development and Information Processes and Technology.
Software Design and Development is a programming based course and involves creating a major software project as a part of its assessment.
Information Processes and Technology is an investigation of computing technology and how it is the basis of the information age in which we live.
Computing Applications is a 1 Unit subject for Year 11 students. This has a practical focus and serves as a continuation of computing interest for students studying extension courses.
