All students in Years 7-10 do Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE). In PD/Health they develop skills and gain knowledge to enable them to enjoy a long and healthy life. In Physical Education they develop practical skills, develop game sense and an ability to work as part of a team. In Years 9 and 10 many students elect to study Physical Activity and Sport Studies (PASS). In the senior school students study Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation (SLR) and 2 Unit PDHPE.
Years 7-10 (PDHPE)
This compulsory subject provides opportunities for students to learn about, and practise ways of, adopting and maintaining a healthy, productive and active life. Themes of work are organised around the major health issues experienced by young people. It also involves students learning through movement experiences that are both challenging and enjoyable, and improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence in a variety of contexts. It promotes the value of physical activity in their lives.
Years 11-12 (PDHPE)
In this 2 Unit course students learn about and practise ways of maintaining active, healthy lifestyles and improving their health status. The course is also concerned with social and scientific understandings about movement, which lead to enhanced movement potential and appreciation of movement in people’s lives. The course focusses equally on Health and Sports Science related units of work. Each year, the PDHPE class achieves HSC results well above the state average, with students going on to a variety of university courses.
Preliminary SLR (PDHPE)
This 1 Unit course focuses on those aspects of learning that relate most closely to participation in sport and physical activity. The course features a highly practical focus, with physical activity being both an area of study and a medium for learning. The modules covered in the preliminary course are Athletics, Games and Sports Applications and Resistance Training. Recreation, physical activity, sport and related health fields provide legitimate career pathways. This course provides students with a broad understanding of the multifaceted nature of these fields.
